Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking a Food Service supervisor in Toronto, with occasional coverage for Scarborough, to coordinate patient meal service and staff.

You will assist the Manager on duty and lead a diverse team in a healthcare setting, ensuring high service standards and regulatory compliance. The role includes payroll support and dietary software management, with emphasis on safety and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Valid Food Handler Certificate or provincial equivalent.
  • CSNM designation is required.
  • Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience supervising a diverse team in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience with staff scheduling, payroll administration, and workforce management practices.
  • Experience using dietary management software, such as Computrition, CBORD, MealSuite, or equivalent systems.
  • Comprehensive health and safety knowledge and training.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop staff.
  • Employee relations experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Food Service Supervisor to supervise multiple food service units and support daily operations and administrative duties.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the Patient Food Services Department, including meal service to patients, sanitation, ware washing, and security.
  • Provide direct supervision, leadership, and performance management to assigned team members, ensuring productivity, accountability, and adherence to departmental standards.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels while meeting operational requirements.
  • Assist with payroll administration, including reviewing attendance records, verifying timecards, and ensuring accurate payroll submissions.
  • Manage and maintain dietary software systems, ensuring accurate patient/resident diet information, menu updates, production records, and reporting.
  • Continually monitor operations, complete assessments, and implement necessary action plans to provide optimal nutrition care and meal service to patients/residents.
  • Drive patient satisfaction and maintain client relationships through regular rounding activities.
  • Recognize and adopt activities appropriate to the specific needs of the patient/resident population and demonstrate knowledge of issues directly related to the age of the patient population.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Compass’ Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Program, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS regulations.
  • Manage and control resources and materials to ensure quality, adequacy of supply, and cost control within budgetary guidelines.
  • Support employee onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job description

This role is based in Toronto and might require occasional coverage at Scarborough location.

The salary range for this position is $52,000 to $54,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, and discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. We are committed to offering competitive compensation and comply with all applicable pay transparency legislation.
