Food Service Helper – Department of National Defence (Ontario)
The Department of National Defence (DND) seeks Food Service Helper candidates for immediate vacancies in Kingston, Petawawa, and Trenton. Applications will also be considered for other regional openings during the selection process.
Duties
- Assisting in the preparation of food, independently or as part of a team;
- Operating cash registers/Point of Sale Terminals to collect meal charges from clients;
- Assisting in the receiving, unloading, and storage of food items;
- Cleansing and maintaining food service facilities.
Essential Experience
- Experience working as part of a team (formal or informal, e.g., work, volunteer, school, sports, family business).
Asset Experience
- Experience working in a food service environment;
- Experience in food preparation, storage, sanitation or food safety practices;
- Experience operating a Point of Sale Terminal (POST) or performing cashier duties;
- Experience in supervision;
- Experience working or volunteering in a mixed civilian and military environment.
Asset Occupational Certification
- Valid recognized food safety certificate appropriate to the location of the position.

Operational Requirements
- Willing and able to work overtime and on short notice;
- Willing and able to do shift work, including weekends and holidays;
- Willing and able to lift, push, pull and carry 20 kilograms;
- Willing and able to stand for prolonged periods of time;
- Willing and able to wear and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety regulations;
- Willing and able to complete a valid food safety program (based on location of the position).
