Job summary

Jarlette Health Services is seeking a Breakfast Cook / Food Service Attendant for The Villa Retirement Lodge in Midland, Ontario. This on-site, part-time role focuses on preparing breakfast, serving meals, maintaining safety, and supporting events in a retirement community.

Under the Culinary Manager, you will ensure food safety and quality, collaborate with staff, and support residents' needs while following WHMIS and health guidelines. English communication required.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Safe Food Handler's Certificate or equivalent training.
  • Minimum food service experience and knowledge.
  • Understanding of food service and preparation is essential.
  • English language communication required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with cooking breakfast and serving meals.
  • Assist with meal service and adherence to guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and food safety practices (WHMIS).
  • Work with interdisciplinary team, volunteers and students.

The community is known as the gateway to the 30,000 islands and draws tourists with its natural beauty, water-based activities, and numerous parks and cottages. Midland hosts various cultural events, such as the annual Butter Tart Festival, and has a lively downtown area with unique shops, restaurants, and a vibrant arts scene.

Join our team as a Breakfast Cook / Food Service Attendant!

Under the direction of the Culinary Manager, the Breakfast Cook/Food Service Attendant ensures food safety and quality by adhering to policies, assists with cooking breakfast and serving meals according to guidelines, and uses equipment competently. Responsibilities include timely meal service preparation, organization, maintaining cleanliness, serving meals based on resident needs, and participating in special events and committees. The role requires collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, volunteers, and students, and strictly follows occupational health and safety, including WHMIS.

We are looking for the following qualifications and traits
  • A valid Safe Food Handler's Certificate from local Public Health, or equivalent food handling training program preferred

  • Appropriate Food Service experience, skills and knowledge.

  • An understanding of food service and preparation is essential

  • Valid alcohol servicing certificate an asset

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, in the English language

  • Dependable, responsible and an ability to work well with others in a team environment and independently.

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the retirement community.

  • Capable of working in fast-paced environment
