Job summary

Sobeys Alberta Commissary in Calgary is seeking an onsite Technician Food & Safety QA to oversee, assure compliance, and continuously improve Food Safety and Quality Management Systems.

The role focuses on reviewing programs, conducting microbiological testing, ensuring regulatory standards, and supporting process improvements to keep Sobeys stores supplied with safe, high-quality products. Collaboration with plant teams and adherence to health and safety policies are essential.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years laboratory experience in microbiology testing.
• Experience with SPC, GMPs, sanitation and process controls.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian regulatory requirements.
• Experience in maintaining HACCP plans, ideally in a GFSI certified facility.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess quality and food safety programs; develop new programs as required.
• Perform regular microbiological testing of food samples with accurate results.
• Ensure that quality, product safety, plant sanitation, and regulatory standards are met.
• Troubleshoot and solve quality problems at plant level using analytical testing and presenting results to management.
• Participate in the plant’s process improvement platform and improve procedures.
• Ensure adherence to Sobeys policies through monitoring observations.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
