Job summary

Hela Spice Canada Inc. is seeking a Quality Assurance Technician to support food safety and quality systems across receiving, production, packaging, and warehousing.

You will perform inspections, sampling, testing, and documentation to ensure ingredients and finished products meet regulatory and customer standards. The role requires hands-on QA/QC experience in a regulated food manufacturing environment and knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and allergen controls.

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years of hands-on QA/QC experience in food manufacturing or related regulated environments.
• Post-secondary diploma/degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Quality Assurance; equivalent combinations may be considered.
• Strong statistical knowledge and analytical skills.
• Practical knowledge of GMP, HACCP-based food safety systems, allergen control, sanitation, traceability, and documentation.
• Experience with routine laboratory practices, sampling plans, CA certificates of analysis, and test-result interpretation.
• Experience with recognized food safety standards such as BRCGS, SQF, or FSSC 22000 preferred.
• HACCP certification and internal-auditor training are valuable assets.
• Experience in dry-blending, spices, seasonings, allergens, microbiological sampling, environmental monitoring, or supplier/raw-material quality is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn ERP, laboratory, document-control, and quality-management systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine quality inspections across receiving, batching, production, packaging, and warehousing areas.
• Verify GMPs, HACCP, allergen controls, sanitation, and related company procedures.
• Monitor weights, labels, lot codes, packaging integrity, and metal-detection checks.
• Identify and escalate food safety or quality issues; support containment and disposition activities.
• Complete quality records in real time and maintain required documentation.
