Position Purpose
Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park is looking for a Food & Beverage Manager to oversee the day-to-day food and beverage operations during our approximately 6½-month ski season.
Nitehawk is a nonprofit, year-round adventure park located near Grovedale, Alberta, in the Municipal District of Greenview, and has been serving the region for more than 65 years. Our food and beverage operations serve skiers, families, school groups, event guests, and the general public.
This is a hands-on position. The Food & Beverage Manager will be involved in cooking, food preparation, customer service, staff training, inventory, ordering, and the daily operation of our food and beverage areas.
The majority of hours will be scheduled around Nitehawk’s operational hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, school group visits, and special events.
Duties & Responsibilities
Food & Beverage Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day food and beverage operations in the Upper Chalet, including the cafeteria and lounge, and the Lower Chalet.
- Work hands-on in the kitchen, including cooking and food preparation.
- Ensure food is prepared and served safely, efficiently, and consistently.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the kitchen, cafeteria, lounge, and food service areas.
- Assist with menu planning and make recommendations based on guest needs, food costs, and available products.
- Provide hands-on support during busy periods and assist wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly.
Team Leadership & Training
- Lead, train, and provide day-to-day direction to food and beverage staff, including lounge staff.
- Ensure staff are properly trained in food preparation, customer service, cleaning, cash handling, and operating procedures.
- Work alongside staff and lead by example during busy services.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to help maintain a positive and productive team environment.
- Address day-to-day employee concerns and communicate performance or employee-related issues with HR and the General Manager as required.
School Group Meals
- Oversee food preparation and meal service for Nitehawk’s school group program.
- Prepare and coordinate lunches for school groups of up to approximately 300 students at one time.
- Ensure meals are prepared in the required quantities and ready on time.
- Coordinate food preparation, service, staff responsibilities, and cleanup for school group visits.
- Work with the appropriate Nitehawk staff to ensure school groups receive efficient and organized service.
Inventory & Ordering
- Monitor food, beverage, and supply inventory.
- Complete regular ordering and maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Receive deliveries and ensure products are stored properly.
- Maintain proper food rotation and help minimize waste and spoilage.
- Work with suppliers to ensure products are available when required.
Financial Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and management of the food and beverage budget.
- Monitor food costs, sales, labour, inventory, waste, and other operating expenses.
- Look for opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability while maintaining quality and service.
- Ensure proper cash handling and point-of-sale procedures are followed.
- Provide financial and operational information to the General Manager as required.
Health & Safety
- Ensure food and beverage operations meet applicable health, safety, sanitation, food handling, and liquor requirements.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout all food preparation and service areas.
- Ensure staff follow proper food handling, cleaning, and workplace safety procedures.
- Ensure required food safety and ProServe certifications are maintained.
- Follow Nitehawk’s health and safety policies and emergency procedures.
Events & Catering
- Coordinate food and beverage services for Nitehawk events, private functions, and catered activities.
- Work with the Events team and clients to determine menu, food quantities, service, and timing.
- Prepare and organize food and service requirements for events.
- Ensure food and beverage service runs smoothly from preparation through cleanup.
Seasonal Operations
- Assist with pre-season preparation of the kitchen, cafeteria, lounge, inventory, menus, and supplies.
- Support daily food and beverage operations throughout the ski season.
- Assist with end-of-season inventory, cleaning, organization, and closeout.
- Be available during evenings, weekends, holidays, school group visits, and other busy periods as required.
Skills, Experience & Education
Education
- Completion of high school required.
- Post-secondary education in hospitality, culinary arts, business, tourism, or a related field is an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or management experience in food and beverage, restaurant, hospitality, catering, or a similar environment.
- Commercial cooking and food preparation experience required.
- Experience working in a busy, seasonal, or high-volume environment is an asset.
- Experience with systems such as Canva, Moneris, and Auphan is considered an asset.
