Position Overview

As our Focused Shop Manager, Heavy Components, you will oversee the daily operations of our Heavy Components Focus Shop — driving performance in safety, quality, cost, and schedule. Reporting to the Components Operations Director, you’ll lead a team of Supervisors and skilled trades in a unionized environment, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. You will play a critical role in achieving operational excellence, developing your team, and ensuring the successful delivery of world‑class nuclear components.

Your Day to Day as Focus Shop Manager, Heavy Components
Delivery Performance
  • Provide hands‑on leadership and strategic direction to ensure on‑time delivery of complex, high‑quality components

  • Oversee production plans, schedules, and priorities, and make recommendations to optimize manpower and capacity

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for parallel manufacturing, alternate work centers, or sublet as required

Production Method / Cost Review
  • Drive operational excellence through improved production methods, optimized resource planning, and proactive problem‑solving

  • Develop, maintain, and oversee cost center budgets and workforce planning

  • Maximize production opportunities while maintaining high labour utilization and achieving revenue commitments

Company & Customer Standards
  • Champion a strong safety and quality culture, ensuring compliance with all EHS and quality standards

  • Partner closely with Quality Assurance to identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions

  • Promote adherence to company policies, procedures, and industry standards

Safety
  • Lead by example to maintain a safe, organized shop environment

  • Partner with EHS to ensure compliance with safety legislation and best practices

  • Support achievement of annual safety goals through proactive engagement, coaching, and oversight of Supervisors

Collective Agreement Administration
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with union executives and workforce

  • Manage within the collective agreement while fostering collaboration and trust

  • Consult and coordinate with HR on potential labour relations matters

Employee Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop Supervisors to enhance team engagement and performance

  • Conduct performance reviews, identify staffing needs, and make recommendations to support workload and budget requirements

Required Qualifications
  • College Diploma or trades certificate in a related field

  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including 5+ years in heavy shop processes (welding, fabrication, etc.)

  • Proven leadership experience managing teams in a unionized setting

  • Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and continuous improvement practices

  • Understanding of EHS legislation (OSHA), the Employment Standards Act, and collective agreements

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $111,000 and $159,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
