Fishing Deckhand
This Full Time/Seasonal position is to work on an offshore albacore tuna fishing vessel. We need a committed crew to stay on the boat for the entire season. Please note that we cannot interrupt our operations to drop crew on land. Trips at sea can be as long as 9 weeks. We do NOT return to land for weekends.
Estimated start date: May 15, 2025 (Workers needed from May through December 2025).
Work location: Mexican Border to Alaska, from the coast to hundreds of miles offshore.
Wages: Paid as percentage share of catch. Minimum daily wage of $250/day.
Job Description:

1. Use and understand the safe operation of fishing gear, including lines, hooks, and other fishing tackle.
2. Operate hydraulic equipment to catch fish.
3. Clean, sort, and pack fish, and stow catch in freezer fish hold.
4. Repair nets, splice ropes and maintain fishing gear and other deck equipment.
5. Perform general maintenance work so that the deck is clean, safe, and operational.
6. Clean deck surfaces and fish hold.
7. Handle mooring lines during docking.
8. Assist with re-fueling and re-provisioning while in port.
9. Take wheel watches.
10. May prepare and cook meals for crew members.

Requirements:

1. Must have completed STCW Basic Safety Training curriculum (or the old MED A1/A2).
2. First Aid and Watch Keeping Certificates are an asset.
3. Able to pass a Drug & Alcohol test as well as a fitness for work test.
4. Must possess a valid Canadian Passport and be able to enter the United States.
5. Must have at least one season of albacore tuna fishing experience.

Experience: 7 months to less than 1 year fishing experience required (tuna preferred).
