Job summary

Trinity Consultants Canada Water & Ecology is seeking a dedicated Fisheries Biologist to join our team. This hybrid role offers opportunities to collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of experienced professionals and to contribute to projects across Canada.

You will lead fisheries and aquatic assessments, integrate geomorphology, limnology, hydrology, and related data, and support client deliverables with high-quality scientific rigor.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• 4-6 years of relevant fisheries experience including fish collection and habitat assessment.
• Ability to analyze fish population data and health indicators.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.
• Strong time management, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Attention to QA/QC and data integrity in aquatic studies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis methods for aquatic science.

Responsibilities

WONDERING WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?

Your role will require you to bring a high standard of scientific excellence to your daily work. The following responsibilities will be in your domain:

• Leading and supporting the planning and implementation of fisheries and aquatic assessment projects across Canada.
• Conducting assessments focused on fish habitat, fish communities and health, integrating elements in areas such as geomorphology, limnology, hydrology, water/sediment quality, and benthic invertebrate communities.
• Contributing fish and fish habitat expertise to large multi-disciplinary projects in collaboration with our other senior staff.
• Mentoring junior team members and supporting knowledge sharing within the aquatic sciences team.
• Representing Trinity Consultants Canada - Water & Ecology in the scientific community through high-quality deliverables, industry engagement, and participation in technical conferences.

THE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Advanced degree in a relevant field
• 4-6 years of relevant experience, including fish collection using various methods, fish community characterization, and assessment of fish population and health data.
• Effective analytical and technical editing and review skills, and ability to ensure the delivery of high-quality reports and proposals.
• Ability to communicate complex scientific information clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences including team members, clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
• Excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality, excellence, and ethics.
• Hands-on expertise in planning and conducting aquatic field programs using a variety of sampling techniques for water, sediment, benthic invertebrates, fish and fish habitat; familiarity with QA/QC protocols and data integrity standards.
• Competent with Microsoft programs
• Strong knowledge of statistical analysis
• R.P.Bio. (or equivalent professional designation), or eligibility for registration is an asset
• Experience in the mining sector is an asset
