General Description

Regional Emergency Services (RES) is a fully integrated Fire/EMS service based in Fort McMurray and offers amongst the highest salaries across all municipal fire departments in Canada. The Fire Training Officer IV plays a key role in strengthening operational excellence across the service. Working closely with Regional Emergency Services leadership, this position is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and delivery of comprehensive training programs that prepare employees for safe and effective performance in fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, hazardous materials response, and other specialized disciplines.

This role oversees curriculum design, instructional delivery, performance evaluation, and compliance with applicable legislation, standards, and best practices. The Fire Training Officer IV also provides mentorship and development support to staff, contributes to succession planning, and enhances organizational readiness through continuous needs assessment, program improvement, and the integration of innovative training methodologies and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, coordinate, and deliver training programs in fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, prevention, and specialized response disciplines.
• Establish and maintain training priorities, schedules, and program timelines.
• Design and implement curriculum and instructional materials aligned with municipal and regulatory standards, and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practices.
• Mentor, coach, and support employees in meeting training and professional development requirements.
• Conduct ongoing needs assessments and implement continuous program improvement initiatives.
• Integrate modern training technologies and innovative methodologies into learning programs.
• Liaise with internal departments, external agencies and mutual aid partners to coordinate joint training initiatives and exercises.
• Maintain accurate training records and documentation.
• Perform tasks that support and maintain continuity of Regional Emergency Services operations.

Other Requirements

• Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
• A valid Class Three (3) Operator’s Licence is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis.
• Q Endorsement (Air Brakes) is required.
• Must be willing to work outside and drive in all weather conditions, and work evenings as required.
• Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position on an ongoing basis.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required to meet operational or business needs.
