Job summary

A government organization in Metro Vancouver is seeking a qualified candidate for a sprinkler installation role. The successful individual will install and supervise sprinkler systems, requiring a secondary school graduation certificate and valid driver's license. The position demands physical capabilities and teamwork in various commercial and residential environments. Experience of 1-2 years is preferred. This role does not allow for remote work.

  • Instruct apprentices.
  • Connect piping systems to water mains and control equipment.
  • Service and repair the sprinkler system.
  • Supervise other workers.

Responsibilities
  • Install sprinkler heads and mount prepared pipe in supports
  • Select, measure, cut, ream and thread pipe
  • Schedule materials, tools and personnel
  • Liaise with management, engineers and other trades
  • Prepare tenders and quotations
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment
  • Install clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system and sprinkler and fire protection equipment, using hand and power tools
  • Installs valves, alarms and associated equipment
  • Join pipes and piping sections using soldering and welding equipment
  • Service and repair sprinkler system
  • Supervise other workers
  • Test system for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment
  • Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush system
  • Cut openings for pipe in walls, floors and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines
  • Install supports, valves, piping and control systems
  • Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size
  • Remove and replace worn components and reactivate system
  • Select type and size of pipe required
  • Test system for leaks using testing equipment
  • Weld, braze, cement, solder and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping system
  • Estimate costs and materials
  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications
