Job summary

City of Prince George’s Fire Dispatch team is seeking dedicated individuals to manage 911 calls and dispatcher duties within a fast-paced public safety environment. You will receive, analyze, and prioritize calls, coordinating with first responders to ensure rapid and accurate responses.

This full-time role requires Grade 12, strong problem-solving, clear communication, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Two years of related experience in public safety communications or dispatch preferred.
  • Audiology exam in accordance with NENA Hearing Standards required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, analyze, and prioritize calls for service, including 911 emergency calls.
  • Shift work is required and you will support both the public and first responders.

About the opportunity:

Fire Dispatch is more than a job-it's a dynamic network of dedicated professionals who combine cutting-edge technology with quick thinking in a fast-paced environment. Every shift offers the chance to make a tangible difference, supporting both the public and first responders when it matters most. You will be responsible for receiving, analyzing, and prioritizing calls for service, including 911 emergency calls. Please note that shift work is required.

About your background:

Completion of Grade 12 and ideally two years of related experience in public safety communications or dispatch will help you succeed in this role. No prior experience in Emergency Services? No problem. Your transferable skills-such as critical problem-solving, accurate data management, and clear, empathetic communication-are highly valued here. We're seeking individuals who remain composed under pressure, communicate with clarity and compassion, and are driven by the desire to make an impact every single day. Successful completion of an audiology exam in accordance with NENA Hearing Standards for Public Safety Telecommunicators is required. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or out of province equivalent) is required. The successful incumbent must also be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check for offenses related to the position.
