Job description

Our Thunder Bay location is hiring a Fire Assay Technician to work 12-hour shifts on a 4 days on, 4 days off rotational schedule, with shifts during the day or night. The schedule will be from 8 AM to 8 PM or 8 PM to 8 AM.

This is an entry-level position, with work directed by the shift Team Lead. The Fire Assay Technician works under supervision in the Fire Assay area and is responsible for maintaining tools and instruments used in the operation.

What you will be doing :

  • Work safely and efficiently, following all health and safety protocols.
  • Liaise with supervisor on work order priorities.
  • Set up fusion batches.
  • Sort and clean pots; sort and dry cupels.
  • Perform Fire Assay techniques such as fluxing, fusing, de-slagging, and cupelling of samples according to SOPs.
  • Maintain quality control and production logs.
  • Properly dispose of crucibles, cupels, and lead waste residues.
  • Conduct QC inspections of samples, crucibles, buttons, and beads.
  • Follow all quality protocols and report discrepancies.
  • Assist in other areas of the geochemistry laboratory when required.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.

What you bring to the table :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • General laborer experience is an asset.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and ability to stand for long periods.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and work in hot, dusty conditions.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions safely and accurately.
  • Must be able to wear PPE properly, including a respirator.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Flexibility to work day shifts on a 4 days on, 4 days off rotation.

Work Environment :

This role involves standing, sitting, and lifting in an industrial environment. Manual dexterity is needed for repetitive tasks. PPE is required. The position involves working near fusion furnaces in hot environments under pressure with tight deadlines.

PLEASE NOTE : Periodic blood testing for lead exposure is required.
