Job summary

SGS in Cochrane, Ontario is seeking a full-time laboratory technician to perform fire assay techniques to determine mineral and metal concentrations. The role features 12-hour day/overnight rotations every two weeks and requires a personal vehicle for commuting.

You will support quality systems, maintain records, and work with ovens and high-temperature environments. A high school diploma and at least one year of lab experience are preferred. Travel to SGS or client sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent mandatory.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant laboratory work experience preferred, or equivalent lab experience through education.
  • Must read, understand, and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Proficient in using common computer software (Word, Excel, CCLAS, Oracle, etc.).
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time‑management skills and attention to detail.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast‑paced, professional environment.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required.
  • Travel to other SGS or client locations may be required from time to time.

  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples and lab equipment.
  • Must work well with others and independently.

Job Overview

The job location for this position is in Cochrane, Ontario. This is a full‑time permanent position with benefits. Rotations occur every 2 weeks between day and overnight shifts on 12‑hour schedules. A personal vehicle is required to commute to the work site.

Additional Information

Compensation: $25 per hour

  • 80% coverage of Health, Dental and Vision
