Job summary

HireLoft Recruitment is seeking a Controller for a privately held, profitable B2B services business in downtown Toronto, near Union Station. You will own the accounting function, manage a senior accountant, and report directly to the VP Finance with real ownership of close, controls and quarterly reporting.

This role goes beyond reporting: you will drive budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis for senior leadership, lead the annual audit, and look for process improvements and system

Qualifications

• Must have owned a full close cycle in-house.
• Strong IFRS and ASPE knowledge.
• ERP experience with advanced Excel.
• Direct people management experience with coaching.
• Comfort in a fast, commercially driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day operations of the accounting function, and the accuracy and timing of everything that comes out of it.
• Monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Month-end and year-end close, start to finish.
• Review of balance sheet reconciliations (bank, credit card, prepaids, accruals) and chasing down anything that doesn't tie.
• Internal controls and accounting procedures, maintained and improved.
• The annual audit, working directly with external auditors.
• Monthly HST filings and compliance with accounting standards and internal policy.
• Budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, with recommendations that reach senior leadership.
• Cash management and financial planning support.
• Process and system improvements that make the function faster.
• Coaching, mentoring and performance management for the accounting team.

HireLoft Recruitment is hiring a Controller for a privately held, profitable B2B services business in downtown Toronto, a short walk from Union Station.

Our client has scaled fast in the Canadian market and is backed by a long-established international parent. No private equity and no funding risk. The finance function is being built out to match the growth, and this seat was deliberately expanded from an accounting manager role into a full Controller mandate before going to market.

• You're the number two. You report directly to the VP Finance and take real ownership, not a slice of it.
• It's a title step up with the scope to match. This was an accounting manager seat. It was rewritten as a Controller role because the business outgrew it.
• Your team grows. You lead a senior accountant and accounts payable on day one. Receivables and payroll are expected to move under you within about six months.
• It's not a reporting-only seat. Close, controls and audit, yes. But also budgeting, forecasting and the analysis that goes to senior leadership.

What you'll own

What we need to see

• 7 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience
• You have personally owned a full close cycle in an in-house role. This is the one we can't flex on.
• Solid working knowledge of IFRS and ASPE
• ERP experience and advanced Excel
• Direct people management experience, with examples of developing your team
• Comfort in a fast, commercially driven environment where you own the detail

The details

• $125,000 to $135,000 base, plus bonus and benefits
• Five days per week on site in downtown Toronto, a short walk from Union Station
• Reporting to the VP Finance
