Job summary

JD Sports Canada in Vancouver HQ seeks a Financial Analyst to join the Finance team. You will contribute to planning, forecasting, and reporting, supporting the FP&A Manager's strategic directives and improving financial dashboards.

The role focuses on retail FP&A with emphasis on KPIs, budgeting, and variance analysis. A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting and 2–4 years of experience are required; Netsuite and Workday familiarity is highly valued.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in financial planning, analysis and modelling.
• Experience with Netsuite and Workday Financials is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support annual planning, budgeting, and rolling forecast processes.
• Track expenditures against budgets and identify variances.
• Analyze financial statements and update financial models with FP&A guidance.
• Prepare baseline projections for brick-and-mortar and e-commerce using historical data.
• Assist month-end close with data gathering and variance reports.
• Conduct cost analyses, benchmarking, and risk assessments.
• Support seasonal sales phasing models using historical data and retailer plans.
• Perform ad-hoc data extraction and analysis for leadership requests.
• Collaborate to review weekly, period-end, and quarter-end results and draft commentary.
• Assist development of department dashboards to enhance reporting.
• Prepare presentation materials for senior analysts and executives.

The Role

The Financial Analyst is a strategic role responsible for planning and managing JD Canada’s financial performance. You will use your experience to build upon the foundation of the Financial Planning & Analysis department, executing on your Manager of FP&A’s strategic directives. The ideal candidate brings a successful track record of supporting sales forecasting, retail planning, and weekly/monthly sales reporting and analysis.

The Responsibilities

• Supporting the annual financial planning, budgeting, and rolling forecast processes
• Assisting in tracking departmental expenditures against budgets and identifying variances for review
• Analyzing financial statements and maintaining/updating financial models with the guidance of the Manager of FP&A
• Preparing baseline projections for brick-and-mortar and e-commerce locations using historical data.
• Assisting with the month-end close process by gathering data and preparing preliminary variance reports
• Conducting routine cost analyses, benchmarking exercises, and basic risk assessments to support decision‑making
• Supporting the creation of seasonal sales phasing models by compiling historical sales data and current retailer plans.
• Performing ad‑hoc research, data extraction, and analysis to support leadership requests.
• Collaborating with the team to review weekly, period-end, and quarter-end financial results, helping draft the initial commentary
• Assisting in the development of new department dashboards to support the automation and enhancement of reporting systems
• Preparing presentation materials and reports for senior analysts and managers to deliver to the executive team

The Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
• Experience working in the retail industry and a deep familiarity with relevant KPIs (conversion, ATV, UPT, etc.)
• Experience compiling complex financial information for an executive audience2-4 years of experience in financial planning, analysis and modelling
• Deep familiarity with Netsuite and Workday Financials software is crucial, familiarity with Jesta ERP is an asset
• Possesses good working knowledge of financial strategies and models
• Advanced excel skills with the ability to create and maintain complex reports
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
