Financial Analyst

Below are the key responsibilities that the Financial Analyst will focus on. However, the role will not be limited to these on an ongoing basis.

The Financial Analyst plays a strategic role in driving financial planning, analysis and reporting activities across the organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is responsible for delivering insightful financial analysis, maintaining financial integrity and supporting executive decision‑making. The Financial Analyst will take ownership of key financial processes, lead strategic initiatives and support continuous improvement in reporting, forecasting and cash flow management. A strong business acumen, attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex financial data effectively are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities
1. Financial Planning, Analysis & Reporting
  • Lead the preparation and maintenance of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements including the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement.
  • Provide detailed variance analysis and deliver financial insights to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Manage the cash flow of the organization and prepare rolling cash flow forecasts on a quarterly basis.
  • Enhance and maintain PowerBI dashboards and provide performance metrics to leadership.
  • Coordinate and oversee the provision of information for the annual audit.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings in jurisdictions that iTmethods operates in.
  • Ensure revenue and cost recognition is in compliance with ASPE standards and the process is well documented and kept up to date.
  • Ad‑hoc Analysis: Perform ad‑hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by management to address specific business questions and challenges.
2. Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead the development of annual budgets and reforecasts in collaboration with executive leadership and department heads.
  • Build dynamic forecasting models to assess financial performance and scenario planning.
  • Ensure alignment of forecasts with strategic goals and business priorities.
3. Process Improvement & Automation
  • Identify design and implement enhancements to financial systems, processes and internal controls.
  • Drive automation initiatives in reporting and analysis to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain and update financial policies and procedures in alignment with industry best practices.
4. Payroll & Benefits Oversight
  • Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy of employee compensation, deductions and tax compliance. Collaborate with HR to address payroll‑related issues and discrepancies while ensuring strict confidentiality.
  • Calculate bonuses and sales commission and manage accruals on a quarterly basis.
  • Ensure vacation balances are kept up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax laws and timely issuance of year‑end documentation.
5. Strategic Support & Business Partnering
  • Act as a financial business partner to other departments, providing actionable insights and guidance.
  • Analyze financial impacts of business initiatives, operational changes and strategic projects.
6. Investigating Alternative Sources of Funding
  • Responsible for sourcing, assessing and applying for federal and provincial funding when appropriate, including but not limited to SRED, IRAP, FedDev, Hiring Grants and Training Grants.
7. Risk Management & Compliance
  • Monitor financial risks and develop mitigation strategies, including foreign exchange and insurance management.
  • Foreign exchange hedging strategies to manage currency risk.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with ASPE standards and government regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of industry changes and suggest suitable approaches to mitigate their impact on the company.
8. Continuous Development
  • Keep abreast of relevant ASPE taxation, federal and provincial grant updates through the reading of pertinent literature and other relevant sources.
9. Process Improvement Policy & Procedure Documentation
  • Continuous process improvement for incremental enhancements to processes, procedures and systems to achieve greater efficiency, effectiveness and quality.
  • Policy development: creation of policy documents including purpose, scope, responsibilities and procedures, ensuring alignment with company values and goals.
  • Procedure documentation: document all internal critical procedures, providing step‑by‑step instructions on how tasks should be performed.
  • Internal controls: implement and document internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
  • Documentation maintenance: continuously review and update financial policies and procedures to reflect changes in company operations, industry standards or regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • Education: Post‑secondary / University degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
  • Accounting designation or working toward designation preferred (CPA).
  • Experience: 2–5 years of work experience in an analytical role, with preference toward FP&A.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organizational skills with a perspective of continually seeking opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong Excel skills including the ability to create/manage large financial models, pivot tables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment with peers and superiors across organizational lines.
