Job summary

Baycrest is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the Finance department in a hybrid full-time role based in Canada’s Ontario region. The position focuses on month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial analysis to support multiple Baycrest group companies.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field; CPA designation or enrolment considered an asset.
  • Three to four years related experience in a large not-for-profit organization; public sector accounting and budgeting experience is valued.
  • Proficient with ASNPO and PSAS; strong Excel and analytical skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Assist in month-end close, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.

Job Summary

The BCCGC Finance department is a shared service department, supporting the Baycrest group of Companies and campus activities. Specifically, it is responsible for meeting financial information requirements of both internal and external customers, including budgeting and planning, reporting, financial analysis, accounts payables/receivables, and general accounting.

Reporting to the Director, Financial Controllership and Planning, the Financial Analyst provides analytical and financial management support for centralized corporate services across the Baycrest group of companies. The role is responsible for supporting month-end closing activities, ensuring the accurate and timely recording of transactions in the general ledger, preparing financial analyses, and contributing to the annual budget development and quarterly forecasting activities. Working closely with operational leaders, the Financial Analyst provides financial insights to support informed decision making.

Key Responsibilities
  • General accounting
    • Completes daily/monthly journal entries and assists others in preparing/posting transactions – revenue, expense accruals, payroll, balance sheet items, capital and other areas as assigned.
    • Reconciles balance sheet accounts including accounts receivable, deferred revenue, bank and intercompany balances and movements.
    • Prepares financial schedules and assembles support for year-end audits.
    • Assists in preparation of annual charity return submissions and Statistics Canada reporting.
    • Collaborates with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and other finance functions to ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial information.
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting
    • Supports preparation of monthly internal financial statements, reports and analysis.
    • Supports preparation of quarterly financial statements, reports and analysis, including meetings with stakeholders and presentation deck to the Board of Directors.
    • Supports the annual operating budget process, including data collection, analysis, budget development, and consolidation.
    • Prepares regular forecasts and financial projections, identifying risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.
    • Supports the preparation of the annual audited financial statements for review by the Director, Financial Controllership and Planning.
    • Identifies opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and increased reporting efficiency across the organization.
    • Undertakes special projects, as assigned.
    • Acts as backup resource for Accountant and/or Senior Financial Analyst.
  • Performs cross-functional and other duties, as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field of study;
  • Enrolled or completed Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) or similar accounting designation;
  • Three to four (3-4) years related experience in a large non-profit organization;
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience would be considered;
  • Experience in a centralized corporate service department is considered an asset;
  • Experience performing public sector accounting, strategic financial analysis, audits, preparation of budgets and financial planning;
  • Demonstrated financial analysis experience and skill.
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Thorough understanding of general accounting and financial systems;
  • Experience in a complex health care facility (hospital and/or long-term care facility) is preferred;
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Access, Outlook, Power Point, Acrobat;
  • Prior exposure to SmartStream and PROPHIX considered an asset;
  • Solid organizational, planning and time management skills; attention to detail and process oriented;
  • Proven ability to complete priorities on time; ability to work flexible hours to meet reporting deadlines;
  • Solid analytical, financial modeling and problem-solving skills;
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills to meet service standards and maintain effective customer communications;
  • Good communication skills including presentation and writeup skills;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Accounting Standards for Not-for-profit (ASNPO) organizations and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS);
  • Ability to work with information that is confidential and which may be politically sensitive;
  • Effective presentation skills;
  • Ability to work independently, and in a flexible, adaptable and resilient manner.
Compensation

Our salary ranges are structured to support progression, from learning the role to demonstrating full proficiency.

The salary range for this position is $66,021 to $82,526 per year.

Your placement within the target hiring range will depend on your job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant education and experience, as well as considerations such as market conditions and internal equity. The starting salary will be determined using these factors to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization.
