Location: Powell River/qathet Regional District

Hours Per Week: 17 to 20

Schedule: Monday - Friday, flexible hours

Salary Or Wage: $35.27 to $40.27 per hour

List of Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years post-secondary education related to Canadian accounting principles
  • Minimum 2 years direct and relevant experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with fund accounting
  • Knowledge of and experience with inter-company accounts
  • Ability to operate various accounting software packages, computer systems, and other office systems, especially Sage and Excel
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and administrative skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyze financial reports
  • Ability to function independently, frequently while under pressure, and while managing multiple projects and deadlines
  • Solid understanding of financial cycles and issues for charitable organizations

List of Duties
  • Responsible for all aspects of payroll function including ensuring compliance with collective agreement and labour legislation
  • Accounts payable, processing invoices, and maintaining files and records
  • Bookkeeping including reconciling bank statements, general ledger accounts, and inter company accounts
  • Developing annual program budgets and budget proposals for grant applications
  • Preparing financial reports including funder reports, income statements, balance sheets, tax and pension plan remittances, WorkSafe BC, GST, and charitable tax return
  • Benefits and Pension administration including enrolling staff and remitting an employer contributed RRSP
  • Prepare materials required by auditor and assist in completing the audit
  • The Finance Manager is responsible for ensuring the ongoing fiscal integrity of two legally separate charitable organizations, Powell River & Region Transition House Society and Powell River Community Services Association (together known as qathet SAFE). Working directly with the Executive Director, the Finance Manager is responsible for all annual, quarterly, monthly, and daily financial processes including data input, software management, audit requirements, budgeting, and reporting (internal and external). In addition, the Finance Manger is also responsible for benefits and pension administration.
