Jobtailor is seeking an experienced finance professional to lead financial reporting and budgeting for the Area X.O team in Ottawa. The role focuses on GAAP compliance, not-for-profit guidelines, and audit readiness while mentoring staff and improving financial systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
  • CPA designation is an asset.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience.
  • At least two years of experience managing direct reports.
  • Experience with revenue recognition, cost allocation, and project- or fund-based accounting.

  • Prepare cash flow projections.
  • Review and approve journal entries and schedules, including revenue recognition and cost allocations.
  • Collect financial data for annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Develop budgets supporting funding proposals.
  • Review and approve project reports submitted to funders.
  • Maintain internal controls and not-for-profit financial guidelines.
  • Support audits and assess audit readiness.
  • Deliver timely financial insights to team leads.

Job description

  • Produce and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for the Area X.O team
  • Prepare accurate and timely cash flow projections
  • Review and approve journal entries and schedules, including revenue recognition and cost allocations
  • Apply GAAP and not-for-profit financial principles across program contexts
  • Collect financial data for annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
  • Develop budgets supporting funding proposals
  • Review and approve project reports submitted to funders
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls and not-for-profit financial guidelines
  • Support financial and program audits and assess audit readiness
  • Liaise on procurement policy and procedures and ensure consistent application
  • Deliver timely financial insights to team leads verbally and in writing
  • Interpret finance policies and procedures, train colleagues on finance systems, and explain monthly reports
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement, inclusion, and belonging
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial systems and processes
  • Improve the quality and timeliness of financial reporting
  • Adapt to evolving program needs and organizational priorities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field
  • Accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
  • 5 to 7 years of experience
  • At least two years of experience managing direct reports
  • Working or volunteering with a not-for-profit organization is an asset
  • Strong communication skills, oral, reading, and writing
  • Experience with revenue recognition, cost allocation, and project- or fund-based accounting
  • Experience building and maintaining budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
  • Familiarity with internal controls and audit readiness
  • Strong spreadsheet skills
  • Confidence working in an ERP or financial reporting system
  • Experience preparing financial reporting for external funders is an asset
