About the Role

The Field Technician will oversee directional drilling operations, ensure safety and efficiency while providing technical expertise and supervision.

Responsibilities
Directional Drilling Preparation
  • Inspect the DeviDrill prior to and after a cut
  • Adjust the DeviDrill for optimal performance
  • Move DeviDrill and survey tools to Drill
  • Instruct Drill crew to pull rods once tool is ready
  • Once rods are on deck perform a rod count to ensure the depth of the hole is properly marked
  • Make sure to properly explain how to lower the DeviDrill system
  • Prepare everything for water test
  • Inspect tool for leaks during water test
  • Instruct drill crew on how to lower the tool
Record Keeping and Data Analysis
  • Complete a daily shift report of shift's activities
  • Record material usage accurately, including proper documentation of serial numbers
  • Perform regular inventory counts and update inventory records as needed
  • Incorporate survey files and hole traces with data collected during others shifts
  • Adjust project planning documents to reflect client-driven changes when required
  • Promptly report any operational or technical issues to management
  • Inform all personnel immediately upon encountering any issues with the directional tooling
  • Assess and determine drill distances in preparation for directional input when required
  • Complete full and precise bi‑weekly drilling report
  • Return signed copies to company management
  • Update client on drilling progress when required or requested
  • Discuss drilling concerns with drill contractor’s representatives
  • When required: monitor drill progress including special operations
Directional Drilling Supervision
  • Perform tool orientation
  • Monitor drilling progress and parameters
  • Troubleshoot in‑hole drilling issues effectively alongside the drill operator
  • Document all drilling parameters
  • Perform borehole surveys, tracking the correction
  • Document all survey results
  • Decide when the correction is complete
  • Request for the drill crew to pull rods
  • Instruct the drill crew what type of equipment to use for reaming purposes as per standard operation
Surveying
  • Run borehole surveys as required
  • Perform QA/QC tests on surveying equipment as required
  • Update project planning accordingly
  • Notify management or supervisor of issues that may be encountered
Shop Duties and Tool Maintenance
  • Inspect and change parts if necessary
  • Update the corrections and maintenance log after every correction
  • Order parts and materials as required
  • Orderly storage of parts and equipment
  • Keep the shop clean
  • Keep vehicles clean and regularly maintained as specified by the manufacturer
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a field technician or related role within the drilling or mining industry.
  • Experience using or maintaining tools and technologies specific to directional drilling.
  • Hands‑on experience in monitoring and troubleshooting drilling operations
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to operate site vehicles as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in remote or physically demanding environments.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR C/AED
  • Willing and able to travel for work on a rotational basis

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate records and producing detailed reports.

  • Familiarity with directional drilling techniques and tools.
  • Previous experience working with drilling equipment used in mining environments.
  • Understanding of geology and subsurface conditions relevant to drilling operations.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, plans, and schematics.
  • Bilingual (English and French)
