Job summary

Smith + Andersen in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a Field Representative - Mechanical to lead across multiple projects, coordinating field activities and ensuring alignment with contract documents and firm standards. The role combines in-office collaboration with on-site work in a hybrid model.

You will review construction packages, support field staff, attend site meetings, and help drive timely reporting and practical construction insights to strengthen project delivery and quality control,

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in applying our standard details, specifications, and installation standards.
  • Lead the application and continuous improvement of our Total Quality Management (TQM) and processes across design deliverables.
  • Ability to coach S+A team members on our role within the contractor/consultant environment, including a clear understanding of our obligations and where our responsibilities end.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction document packages and identify constructability issues.
  • Confirm the project designers, project managers, or project engineers have completed the Total Quality Management (TQM) process.
  • Prepare and issue field review job reports in accordance with company standards.
  • Attend site meetings and verify construction progress across multiple project sites.
  • Monitor and ensure that the contractual legal documentation is being issued in a timely manner when S+A is the Prime Consultant.
  • Review project status and collaborate with internal team members promptly to enable the Field Representative team to attend site meetings with no outstanding items.
  • Share practical construction insights to inform and strengthen design team technical skills development.
  • Confirm work completion against plans, standards and specifications prior to approving progress payments.
  • Review Prime Consultant contractual obligations related to payment certification, including applicable local Construction Lien Act requirements.
  • Define close-out requirements and obtain contractor documentation to support building permit close-out.
  • Conduct building condition assessments and prepare technical due diligence and capital planning reports in accordance with company standards (applicable to select office locations).
  • Lead and / or participate in witnessing of Fire Alarm Verification, according to CAN/ULC S537 (applicable to select office locations); Lead and / or participate in Integrated Systems Testing, according to CAN/ULC S1001 (applicable to select office locations)

This Opportunity

As a Field Representative with Smith + Andersen, you will provide leadership across multiple projects and act as an integration point between disciplines in the field, ensuring construction activities are coordinated, conflicts are identified early, and responses are aligned across the project team. You will oversee construction administration documentation across multiple disciplines, assign and support field staff on projects, and ensure consistency in reporting, interpretation of contract documents, and application of firm standards.   • Proactively escape issues identified on site, involving the right stakeholders to support timely resolution, protect the project’s best interests, and manage S+A’s risk exposure.

  • Strong understanding of applicable codes and industry standards and is experienced in their real-world application.
