What will you be doing!
  • Acting as the communication bridge between property owners/occupants and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) contractors, explaining daily construction activities in plain language.
  • Providing regular updates to stakeholders on planned work and promptly notifying them of any unexpected changes or schedule adjustments.
  • Representing CNL as an ambassador in the community and aligning all communication with project messaging and goals.
  • Serving as the first point of contact for stakeholder questions or concerns and escalating issues to the Small-Scale Sites Communications team when needed.
  • Attending daily contractor meetings to review upcoming construction work and raise or resolve stakeholder concerns.
  • Ensuring contractors follow their approved communications plan.
  • Mitigating complaints by spotting issues early, solving problems proactively, and collaborating with Construction and Project teams.
  • Handling occasional difficult conversations with professionalism and calm.
  • Providing regular feedback to in-office staff, highlighting concerns and offering potential solutions.
  • Bringing major complaints or emerging issues to the Senior Field Liaison Officer immediately.
  • Escalating complex or unresolved stakeholder issues to the Senior Field Liaison Officer for formal follow-up.
  • Attending internal CNL meetings and public events to stay informed and represent the Small-Scale Sites Communications team.
  • Supporting the Complaints Resolution Program when issues enter the formal process.
  • Modelling diplomatic, tactful, ethical behavior in all interactions.
  • Managing your time effectively to coordinate with other staff and contractors efficiently.
  • Documenting stakeholder interactions accurately and filing records according to corporate requirements.
  • Communicating daily with Communications and technical staff by phone, text, and email.
  • Operating a CNL fleet vehicle safely and ensuring it is kept clean and secure.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • University or college degree in communications and/or environmental sciences and/or related field
  • Experience
    • Minimum five years of progressive and comprehensive work experience in the field.
    • Interfacing effectively with construction contractors in day-to-day field activities.
    • Communicating one-on-one with property owners, occupants, and members of the public.
    • Navigating difficult conversations with confidence, clarity, and professionalism.
    • Applying experience from residential construction or environmental remediation projects is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills with strong time-management abilities.
    • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities effectively.
    • Proficiency with MS Office tools, including Word and Excel.
    • Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

CNL's Historic Waste Program Management Office is in Port Hope, Ontario's beautiful and historic community.
