Qualifications

Mobile Quality Lab in Samsung Electronics Canada is responsible for the quality control of all mobile products launched in the Canadian market. The Field Automation Engineer will contribute to set quality standards for new and existing technologies, while designing and conducting the tests that guarantee compliance with all customer, carrier, and regulatory requirements. This position will interface with cross‑functional teams and operators to provide engineering support for new wireless product development and the validation of new features and technologies, spanning from initial stage, to the lab entry phase, through product launch.

The role involves hands‑on device testing across 4G / 5G networks, including emerging NTN Satellite Service and create automation scripts based on the requirements.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Execute Device-level protocol testing across 5G SA, 5G NSA, LTE, and legacy RATs under supervision.
  • Perform Call Setup, Mobility Handover, Data Throughput, NR Acquisition, and feature validation (e.g., VoLTE, VoNR, EPS Fallback, SRS Tx Switching, etc.) with guidance.
  • Support Satellite service Functional and Performance testing in NTN area under supervision.
  • Responsible for developing and executing automation test workflows while also providing field test support as needed to validate features, performance, and real-network behavior.
  • Knowledge with industry tools such as QXDM, QCAT, Shannon DM, XCAL, and XCAP for logging device behavior, debugging network attach, bearer setup, and mobility scenarios.
  • Assist in designing, developing, and executing QA test plans and automation scripts under supervision.
  • Collaborate with R&D, protocol, and operator teams to identify issues and support resolution efforts.
  • Document test results, create issue reports, obtain proper logs, and track defects to closure under guidance.
  • Maintain accurate and current project documentation, ensuring all necessary information is readily accessible.
  • Participate in frequent business trips to different cities in Canada, including NTN area, as required.
  • Familiarize with the Canadian mobile market and operator-specific requirements to support seamless adaptation to local environments.
  • Support the proposal of new ideas and enhancements to SECA field operations by communicating with headquarters for various related features and issues.
  • Contribute to operational objectives by assisting in strategic plans and reviews: preparing and completing action plans, implementing quality and customer‑service standards, resolving problems, completing audits, identifying trends, determining system improvements, implementing change.
  • Translate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture and design under supervision. Support systems architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Maintain technical knowledge to support rapidly changing technology. Work under technical supervision with supplemental engineering support.
  • Use technical engineering knowledge to understand customer applications, test cases, and requirements. Collaborate with teams in different time zones under guidance.
  • Diagnose Protocol and System level issues from carriers under supervision, screen through and debug issues reported from carriers, and support IoT and field test by doing in‑depth log analysis.
Skills and Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
Knowledge
  • Basic understanding of SDLC and STLC.
  • Familiarity with Network communications, 3GPP, GSMA –IR.92, IR.94 standards, IMS, SIP, SDP, RTP, RTCP protocols, TCP / IP networking.
  • Basic knowledge of 5G Technologies and Architectures: NSA, SA, Sub6, mmWave, NRCA, VoNR, EPSFB, gNB, AMF, SMF, UDM, AUSF, UPF.
  • Basic Understanding of IMS, VoLTE, VoNR, EPS Fallback, and end-to-end call flows.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to deliver results in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Python and other modern programming languages and relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Solid understanding of software development principles, including version control (Git), testing, and CI / CD pipeline.
  • Knowledge with automation framework is required.
Experience
  • 0-2 years of technical or telecommunications engineering related experiences in mobile phone / tablet or related industry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in device protocol testing (LTE / 5G NSA / SA) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with tools such as XCAL / XCAP, QXDM, QCAT, QPST, SHANNON DM is a plus.
  • Familiarity with NTN Satellite service in mobile is a strong plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, especially in log analysis.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working directly with mobile operators (Bell, Telus, Rogers, Videotron, etc.) for device testing is a plus.
  • Background in interoperability testing (IoT) with network vendors is a plus.
  • LLM model knowledge is preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience with one or more major AI / ML APIs.
