Job summary

ZEISS Group in Toronto is seeking a Field Application Engineer to assist customers and our Sales team with pre- and post-sales application engineering, including product demonstrations, POCs, and on-site support for 3D Optical products. You will also train customers and support IT-related issues on Windows, networks, and databases, in a consultative role.

The role requires a four-year degree in Engineering/CS/Physics and 1–3 years of experience, with strong communication and problem-solving

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Physics required; equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • 1–3 years of professional experience.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of 3D mathematics and programming in modern scientific languages.
  • Excellent verbal communication and ability to present to audiences.
  • Ability to write clear technical reports.
  • Ability to teach/train during demonstrations or on-site support.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to learn to solve measurement problems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and perform high-quality customer demonstrations in-house and in the field.
  • Provide technical consultation to Field Sales and customers, focusing on advanced applications.
  • Maintain focus on Zeiss 3D optical technology and new products in NA market.
  • Support introduction of new products into North American Market.
  • Provide post-sales technical support to ensure successful system use.
  • Provide field support for IQS 3D Optical systems: respond to software/applications questions and assist with testing.

Location:

This position is located in our Toronto office and will potentially travel up to 50%. Must live in Toronto and be commutable to the Toronto location.

What’s the role?

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) will assist our customers and our Zeiss Sales team with pre-post-sales application engineering activities such as product demonstrations, proof of concepts (POC), launch support at customer sites and sales support for the 3D Optical products. Further post sales activities such as helping customers with understanding and applying our hardware and software systems. This support can be provided in a variety of ways, including additional product demonstration, custom support classes, trainings, telephone, and on-site support. This important consultative role specifically always requires professional conduct and customer orientation.

Here’s what you’ll do:
  • Plan, prepare and perform high-quality customer demonstrations, both in-house and in the field as needed.
  • Provide technical consultation to Field Sales personnel and our customers, network in matters relating to advanced applications and systems.
  • Maintain a focus on advanced applications and new Zeiss 3D optical technology.
  • Support the introduction of new products into the North American Market.
  • Provide technical after-sales support for customers to help ensure successful use of our systems.
  • Provide field support for all IQS 3D Optical systems:
    • Respond to all customer related software/applications support questions.
    • Respond to any IQS department requiring software/applications support.
    • Aid with software and system testing in support of product development.
  • Provide applications expertise for necessary project related activities:
    • Respond to customer requests which typically include analyzing inspectionrequirements.
    • Estimate anticipated Gage R&R results.
    • On-site support of quoted application items.
  • Ability to understand and support IT related issues such as:
    • Windows Operating System knowledge
    • Networking
    • Database management
Do you qualify?
  • A four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Physics is required. Equivalent work-related experience may be considered.
  • 1 – 3 years of professional experience
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Must have an understanding of 3D mathematics and computer programming techniques in any of the modern scientific computer languages.
  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills and be comfortable presenting technical information to small or large audiences.
  • Must have the ability to write clear and concise technical reports.
  • Must have the ability to perform in a Teacher/Trainer related capacity as necessary during product demonstrations or on-site support and relate the benefits of our products to problem solutions for customers.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently from problem statement to solution.
  • Must have the ability to learn independently to find solutions to potential customer measurement problems.

The annual pay range for this position is $75,000 – $93,000 and also eligible for sales commission.

The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
