Fiber and Structured Cabling Technician Edmonton
Tridon Communications is expanding! We are seeking Fiber & Structured Cabling Technicians in the Edmonton area.
Job Description:
The Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for the assembly, installation, repair, and maintenance of telecommunications structured cabling systems, fiber optic backbone, campus cabling, and cabling for wireless access points.
- Structured cabling includes cabling for commercial buildings, industrial applications, and temporary facilities.
- Fiber optic work involves installing cables inside/outside buildings, installing field connectors, splicing cables using a fusion splicer, and testing with OTDR and Power Meters.
Required Work Experience:
- Installation of structured cable components (Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Fiber Optic)
- Installation and testing of communication circuits via communication cabling networks
- Service, maintenance, and troubleshooting of communication circuits and cabling networks
- Troubleshoot, repair, and replace components as needed
- Facilitate employee development and training of new hires
- Read and interpret telecommunication drawings and specifications
Must Haves:
- Safety-first mindset
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator's License or equivalent (recent 5-year Driver's Abstract required upon hire)
- Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol tests for site access
- College Technical Diploma or equivalent in a related field (preferred)
- Certifications such as TE Connectivity, Commscope Systimax, Belden, or Corning (assets)
- Customer service skills and understanding of networking requirements and wiring standards
- Ability to adapt to new techniques and changing events
- Ability to work safely in hazardous environments
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and practices of the trade
- Knowledge of telecommunication codes, standards, and regulations
- Fluent in English (written and verbal)
- Team player
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods
- Work at heights, including ladders and man lifts
- May carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs for short distances
