Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a full-time Educational Assistant in the Independent Living Program at Father Beauregard School. The position supports students' growth across cognition, communication, physical and social development, and assists with teacher-directed programming.

Responsibilities include implementing PBPs if required, collaborating with teachers and multi-disciplinary teams, adapting curriculum, and using assistive technologies.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma (required).
• NVCI Level A&B may be required.
• Valid First Aid Level C with CPR.
• Able to swim in depths up to 50 meters.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Support and/or implement teacher-directed programming.
• Collaborate under guidance of teacher, CST and multi-disciplinary team.
• Implement strategies from specialists (OT, PT, SLP) to achieve goals.
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate learning.
• Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcements and school behaviour strategies.
• Observe student behaviour to promote positive outcomes and mitigate issues.
• Provide structure to facilitate learning outcomes and supervise students indoors and outdoors.
• Assist with adaptive and learning technologies and various devices.
• Possibly implement the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP) if required.
• Understand and support modified curriculum and students with Autism or complex medical needs.

Education

Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma

NVCI Level A&B (may be required)

First Aid Level C with CPR

Ability to Swim 50 meters

• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Medical Procedures – such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting, or diabetic monitoring may be required
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Able to work with students with emotional, behavioural or other disabilities
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
• Swim program
