Job summary

JOB TITLE: Family Support Worker

LOCATION: Zhiibaahaasing First Nation

REPORTS TO: Band Manager

TERM: Full-Time(1), Permanent upon Successful completion of probation

SALARY RANGE: $39.07 to $43.90/hr

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The family support worker provides compassionate, culturally grounded support to families within the community. This position promotes Family Wellness through advocacy, home visits, case management, and Community programming. They work to help families strengthen their relationships, develop life skills, and to access the services and support they need to build safe, healthy and stable homes.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrated ability to work constructively and cooperatively in a team setting
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture, tradition and customs
  • Provide Crisis Intervention and support for families
  • Coordinate Workshops and activities focused on parenting, life skills, mental wellness, cultural teachings, and Youth Development
  • Encourage land base programming such as seasonal camps, cultural outings or gatherings
  • Prepare and maintain a procedure manual specific to the position with the inclusion of protocols (i.e. privacy and confidentiality, fi le management,..)
  • Complete and submit monthly reports
  • Ability to engage children, relate to use with warmth and understanding, non judgmental based approaches
  • Encourage families to participate in community and cultural programming
  • Collaborate with other departments to off er integrated programming
  • Assist youth in developing life skills and assist in gaining access to community resources
  • Monitor progress towards achievements of goals
  • Work collaboratively with parents to develop and Implement wellness plans that support parents and achieving goals and objectives that are concrete and attainable
  • Establish a trusting relationship with that risk families
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of clients strengths/ weaknesses and progress towards case goals and meeting documentation on ongoing process
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a high level of confidentiality, tact and discretion
  • Assist parents in developing culturally appropriate strategies in addressing problems that impact their family, and provide workshops allowing parents to learn various skills needed
  • Provide in-home support and guidance for parenting, childcare, household routines
  • Model and teach life skills such as budgeting, meal planning, cleaning, and organizing
  • Help plan and coordinate Community Based workshops on topics like healthy relationships and Family Wellness
  • Encourage families to participate in community and cultural programming
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the Social Work or related field
  • First Aid Certification
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act
  • Must possess a valid G drivers license and have reliable transportation
  • Current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector cheque
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Knowledge of First Nation concepts and procedures
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Regular sitting, standing is required.
  • Travel Required
  • Weekend work may be required at times
