Job summary

Victoria Palliative Care Physician Group is seeking physicians to join a flexible, permanent team providing palliative care across hospitals, clinics, home visits, and hospice settings in Greater Victoria.

The role includes in-hospital consults, MRP duties in a 16-bed unit or an 18-bed hospice, and outpatient/home-visits with a focus on vulnerable populations. On-call duties and teaching of medical learners are also included.

Responsibilities

• Provide palliative care consults in 2–3 acute care hospitals in Greater Victoria
• Carry out duties of MRP in a 16-bed tertiary palliative care unit and/or an 18-bed hospice unit
• Provide outpatient and home-visit palliative care consults across Greater Victoria (driver’s license and car required)
• Possible outpatient consults and follow-up visits to marginalized populations including homelessness, mental health and addiction
• Participate in the on-call schedule
• Teach and supervise medical learners (eligibility for faculty appointment with UBC)

Role and Facility Information

The Victoria Palliative Care Physician Group who work in Island Health have full and part time permanent positions available for palliative care physicians able to work in a variety of clinical settings including a tertiary palliative care unit, inpatient consults, hospice, community home visits and outpatient clinics.

Description Of Role

This role is flexible and the area of coverage will be determined as needs dictate, but preferences are strongly considered. It will include:

• Provision of palliative care consults in 2-3 acute care hospitals in Greater Victoria
• Provision of duties of MRP within a 16 bed tertiary palliative care unit and/or a 18 bed hospice unit
• Provision of outpatient and home visit palliative care consults within the Greater Victoria area (driver’s license and car are required)
• Possible provision of outpatient consults and follow up visits to marginalized vulnerable populations, including individuals with co-morbid life‑threatening illness and homelessness, mental health and addiction
• Participation in the on‑call schedule
• Teaching and supervision of medical learners (requires eligibility for faculty appointment with UBC)
