A healthcare organization in the Okanagan region seeks a part-time Family Practice Physician to support addiction medicine services at Penticton Regional Hospital. Responsibilities include managing substance use disorders, collaborating with a mental health team, and contributing to teaching and leadership development. Preference given to candidates with relevant certifications and a Full CPSBC License. Academic involvement is available.

Qualifications

  • Must have Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage.
  • Experience with Opioid Agonist Therapy.

Responsibilities

Job description
Overview

Exceptional part-time opportunity for a Family Practice Physician with additional experience and training in addiction medicine to join the mental health team at Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH). The primary focus is to support the Emergency Department and Inpatient units throughout PRH in assessments, managing withdrawal and treatment related to substance use, and to work with the Substance Use Connections team to treat and support patients presenting with substance use disorder. PRH is a teaching hospital academically affiliated with the University of British Columbia’s Southern Medical Program, with opportunities for academic and research involvement. Leadership development opportunities are available with Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program.

  • Support the Emergency Department and Inpatient units in assessments and withdrawal management for substance use disorders.
  • Treat and support patients with Alcohol Use Disorder, Opioid Use Disorder, Polysubstance Use Disorder, and Concurrent Disorder; participate in Opioid Agonist Therapy and withdrawal management.
  • Collaborate with the Substance Use Connections team to support discharge planning.
  • Contribute to teaching and academic activities with medical students and residents of the UBC Southern Medical Program.
  • Engage in leadership development opportunities through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program as applicable.
  • Participate in future planning and decision-making for Addiction Medicine services at PRH.
Qualifications
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage is mandatory.
  • BCCSU Provincial Opioid Addiction Treatment Support Program (or equivalent).
  • Preference given to ISAM certification and/or Certificate of Added Competence in addiction medicine from the College of Family Physicians.
  • Current CPSBC License - Full.
