Job description

We are seeking a dedicated family physician with rural and remote experience to join Practice D in Daajing Giids. This position is 0.5 FTE, and is expected to start April 1, 2026.

The Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay/Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre (XGNN/HGHHC) opened in 2016 and is a 16-bed facility and serves the communities of southern Haida Gwaii. This beautiful facility provides 24/7 emergency care, inpatient and residential care, as well as a full suite of out‑patient services. Low‑risk obstetrics is also provided in a midwifery‑led model with physician support.

You can expect a supportive, passionate and collegial experience with long‑serving colleagues in the community who value mentoring both learners and new‑to‑practice physicians in their unique practice environment. This leads to an active learning environment with weekly skills drills and educational CME luncheons.

XGNN/HGHHC is a teaching site for UBC Faculty of Medicine, and this opportunity includes teaching and mentoring medical learners including family practice residents and undergraduate medical and nurse practitioner students.

Haida Gwaii consists of approximately 150 islands off the northwest coast of British Columbia. Daajing Giids is the largest community and is located at the south end of Graham Island, providing services to a population of approximately 2,500, roughly 50% of whom are of Haida ancestry. The Haida culture is world‑wide and highly celebrated.
