Job summary

Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, Inc. is seeking a Family Group Conference Mentor for Isobel's Place. This is a full-time term position, providing parental leave coverage to November 1, 2027 (.5 Isobel's Place & .5 other Youth Homes).

The incumbent will engage families, apply Indigenous frameworks, and coordinate with the support network to strengthen family decision-making. The role requires post-secondary education in Human Services or equivalent experience, knowledge of Child Welfare Legislation,

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in the area of Human Services or acceptable equivalent/related experience.
• Working knowledge of the Child Welfare Legislation and Standards.
• Thorough understanding of the Family Group Conference model. Training will be provided.
• Understanding of and ability to promote culturally sensitive care for children and families.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with families, young parents, and team members.
• Ability to work independently and to set and meet deadlines.
• Ability to be flexible, meaning working some evenings and weekends when necessary. Sometimes families require immediate FGC mentor intervention, and this doesn't always happen during work hours.
• Ability to implement program policies and protocols.
• Ability to plan and implement an effective conference with all youth and their supports.
• Understand the challenges youth face generally and as adolescent parents.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in written form, including effectively using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
• Understanding of and ability to promote culturally sensitive care for children in keeping with Indigenous values and community issues.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous mandated and non-mandated organizations.
• Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
• Must provide a current (within last three months) Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector search & Child Abuse Registry Check and be subject to Prior Contact Check.

Background: The incumbent will be responsible to provide families of children and youth the greatest opportunity to rediscover their power to make family decisions and reconcile to the strengths of the family within an Indigenous framework. This framework includes gathering the people in their support network, providing programming and support in accordance with the family's needs and reflective of Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre's philosophy.
