Job Description

Dr. Meiqi Yang is seeking multiple highly motivated PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to join her research group in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CHBE) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada, starting in Fall 2026.

Yang Lab is at the forefront of resource recovery and wastewater treatment research, uniting artificial intelligence (AI) with advanced materials discovery and process engineering. Our mission is to develop AI-driven platforms that revolutionize resource recovery through intelligent, data-guided, and sustainable environmental solutions.

About the PI

The PI, Dr. Meiqi Yang (google scholar: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=AQtPAhsAAAAJ&hl=en ; Personal website: https://meiqiyang53.github.io/ ), will join CHBE Depart. at UBC as an asst. professor in July 2026. Dr. Yang is currently a postdoc associate at Rice University, working with Dr. Menachem Elimelech, and earned her Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Princeton University under the supervision of Dr. Zhiyong ( Jason ) Ren. Dr. Yang has published her work in top-tier journals, including Nature Water (cover), Environmental Science & Technology (cover), Nano Letters (cover), Science Advance, etc. and machine learning conferences.

We Look for Candidates Who
  • B.S./M.S. (for graduate programs) or Ph.D. (for postdoctoral positions) in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
  • Have interest or research experience in at least one of the following directions:
    • Resource recovery/wastewater treatment/life cycle assessment.
    • Optimization/data analysis/machine learning (generative models, physics-informed AI, prompt-engineering, etc.).
  • Have strong foundations in wet lab experimentation OR mathematical modeling and programming.
