Position Summary

BCIT’s Digital Arts, Media and Design department within the School of Business is seeking a temporary, part‑time (0.2 FTE) Faculty member for our Animation and Gaming program. The Diploma in 3D Modeling, Art and Animation offers courses in Animation and Gaming, Web and Mobile, and Communication and Graphics.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, team‑oriented professional with broad, practical knowledge within the Digital Entertainment and Interactive industry. Assigned to the 3D Animation 3 course within our 3DMAA program focused on Animation and Gaming, the faculty member must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, clear communication, and an ability to develop and deliver quality curriculum in a fast‑changing industry.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Animation, 3D Art, Digital Media, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in 3D production, including modeling, animation, rigging, texturing, lighting, rendering, and Unreal Engine.
  • Experience in a senior or higher‑level role within the 3D animation or games industry, demonstrating leadership and creative direction.
  • Proven expertise in acting for animation and body mechanics, creating expressive, believable character performances.
  • Strong expertise in Autodesk Maya, with a deep understanding of the animation module and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Ability to provide clear, consistent, and constructive animation feedback grounded in industry‑standard animation principles.
  • Demonstrated success in 3D production pipelines and current industry practices.
  • Minimum five years of post‑secondary teaching experience, including course design, delivery, and student assessment in art or animation‑related subjects.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with a focus on mentoring and motivating students.
  • Flexible, creative, and collaborative teaching approach, capable of delivering engaging, hands‑on, and experiential learning sessions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent post‑secondary teaching credential
  • Masters in Fine Arts, Animation, or related discipline

Salary Range

$65,045 - $113,545 per annum.

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
