Job summary

Brunel is seeking a Factory Test Specialist, Mechanical in Calgary to develop and improve factory testing for liquid cooling products. You will work with design and manufacturing teams to ensure testability and production readiness, applying robust statistical methods and structured problem solving.

Requirements include a Mechanical Engineering degree and 3+ years in industrial or laboratory testing, with proficiency in Python, Minitab and Excel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of three years in industrial, component or laboratory testing.
• Experience with testing, automation, controls or signal conditioning.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive factory test requirements for NPI projects.
• Develop in‑process and end‑of‑line test procedures for liquid cooling products.
• Implement test procedures within MES framework.
• Design test equipment and support integration into production.
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing and test teams.
• Lead root cause investigations on complex yield issues.
• Apply 8D, DMAIC, Fishbone and Fault Tree Analysis methods.
• Establish Cp/Cpk and process capability prior to ramp‑up.
• Support continuous improvement of test methods and yield.

Factory Test Specialist, Mechanical

Introduction

Brunel is currently seeking a Factory Test Specialist, Mechanical to support a growing manufacturing and engineering operation. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving factory testing processes for in-process and finished liquid cooling products.

The successful candidate will bring hands‑on knowledge of industrial testing, sensing techniques, signal conditioning, electromechanical systems, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. Working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, they will help improve product quality, test reliability, process capability, and first-pass yield.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive factory test requirements during New Product Introduction projects.
• Develop and document in-process and end‑of‑line testing procedures for liquid cooling products.
• Implement factory test procedures within the Manufacturing Execution System.
• Design manufacturing test equipment and support its integration into production.
• Collaborate with design, test and qualification, manufacturing engineering, and production teams.
• Participate in Design for Manufacturing discussions to ensure testability and production readiness.
• Lead root cause investigations related to complex yield escapes and customer returns.
• Apply structured problem‑solving methodologies, including 8D, DMAIC, Fishbone Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis.
• Define and maintain Statistical Process Control frameworks for critical‑to‑quality parameters.
• Establish Cp and Cpk capability requirements and validate process capability before production ramp‑up.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on factory test methods, first‑pass yield, product performance, and manufacturing quality.
• Interpret complex test and process data and translate findings into practical corrective actions.
• Follow all workplace safety requirements, company procedures, and applicable industry regulations.
• Use required personal protective equipment and promptly report safety concerns or hazards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of three years of experience in industrial testing, component testing, laboratory testing, or a related technical environment.
• Academic or practical experience in testing, automation, controls, signal conditioning, or related areas.
• Experience with component verification testing.
• Experience with electrical panel testing.
• Understanding of electromechanical systems, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
• Proficiency in Python or a similar programming language.
• Experience applying statistical methods and using statistical analysis software such as Minitab.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and act on complex data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and a process‑focused approach.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Strong collaboration, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
• Engineer‑in‑Training designation is considered an asset.
