Job description
Overview / Aperçu

Oversee all facility/manufacturing engineering support for one of two large-scale railcar repair facilities. This includes leading capital investment projects, equipment maintenance improvements (up time), and equipment/ tooling related process improvements. This role is also responsible for the Maintenance department and employees including all aspects of safety, quality, production and cost. This role is key in supporting continuous improvement activities.

Responsibilities / Responsabilités
  • Serve as site lead and technical project manager for capital investment projects at the shop
    • Includes large scale capital investment, process improvements (productivity), and other growth projects
    • Key role as continuous improvement / Kaizen manufacturing engineering support to design and implement tooling and equipment to improve railcar repair operations.
    • Typically this role works across departments and functional areas, including safety, quality, delivery, and cost as well as shop production, material, maintenance, and switching
  • Oversee Maintenance and support production for the facility
    • Plan preventative maintenance programs for repair shop to optimize availability (up time) of all equipment
    • Provide expertise and guidance regarding equipment and buildings
    • Direct management over maintenance supervision and maintenance department.
    • Design tooling/ fixtures for railcar repair
  • Manage all project and maintenance related expenses
    • Assist in preparation of capital operating and repair budgets, providing justification as applicable
    • Lead / assist in the preparation of justification for capital investment proposals.
    • Provide updates to current year budgeting and planning for upcoming years
    • Manage vendor relationships through project life cycle, from quote to completion implementation of capital equipment
  • Support a relentless problem-solving methodology to improve performance within the service center
    • Develop project road map large and small which will improve facility performance
    • Kaizen support on key projects
    • Aid in the creation of and updating of Standard Work/ PM documentation as needed
  • Qualifications / Qualification

    Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications):

    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, manufacturing or mechanical engineering preferred
    • 5-7 years of previous shop floor supervisory, operations management, and/or value stream management experience, is highly recommended.
    • Experience in a low-volume/high-mix industry or multiple, varied industries is preferred
    • Experience in project management for capital expenditures, production launch, or large scale changes
