Job Description

The Facilities Specialist is responsible for maintenance of all County buildings and overseeing new construction.

Main responsibilities for this role include:

  • Overseeing the installation, maintenance and repair of building infrastructures including machinery, equipment, and electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Assisting with development, maintenance and replacement schedules for facilities.
  • Developing and implementing schedules and procedures for safety inspections, orientation of employees and contractors, and developing a Field Level Hazardous Assessments.
  • Responding to and coordinating corresponding repairs related to building maintenance requests from County building occupants and users of County facilities. Coordinating enhancements, upgrades, or outside maintenance with Supervisor.
  • Adjusting and conducting minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems, utilizing qualified tradespersons for major repairs. Performing other routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair.
  • Working with Director, Facilities on the completion of safety inspections, security and operating budget.
  • Practicing and promoting responsible Health and Safety including but not limited to safe operation of equipment, appropriate use of PPE, Hazard Assessments, Safe Work Procedures, worksite inspections, and site safety orientation of employee and contractors.
  • Being alert and proactive to abnormalities and issues in the facilities systems.
  • Co-ordinating cleaning, including exterior of County buildings.
  • Planning maintenance by using work orders and PO's for projects; purchasing and performing ad hoc maintenance as needed.

The Facilities Specialist will be part of a Paid-On-Call bi-weekly rotation and will be responsible for answering calls and responding to building related problems.

Qualifications
  • Completion of a college or university program in facility management or in a discipline related to facility operation and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience in facility maintenance, or Journeyman Certification in a related trade.
  • Project liaison experience.
  • Building Maintenance certificate.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Knowledge of building construction, operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of large and small heating, cooling and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of maintenance programs and schedules and ability to see abnormalities and issues in the systems.
  • Communication skills for communicating effectively and professionally, verbally and in writing, with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of security tools and procedures.
  • Ability to work outside of standard office hours as needed and to respond to issues after hours – this position will be provided with a phone and County vehicle and operates on a paid on-call bi-weekly rotation.
