Job summary

A municipal recreation department in Manitoba is seeking a candidate to manage the operations of community parks, pool, and recreational facilities. The successful applicant will coordinate events, ensure compliance with regulations, and supervise staff. Job description

Working with the Recreation Programmer to ensure the smooth operation of all community recreation and cultural facilities within the Municipality of Oakland-Wawanesa and to assist in the coordination, implementation and promotion of all community events as directed by the Oakland-Wawanesa Parks & Recreation Board (OWPR).

Position Requirements
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills as well as a positive attitude;
  • Able to identify needs and opportunities, solve problems and promote teamwork;
  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong administrative skills in terms of invoicing and accounts receivable;
  • Ability to effectively balance the demands of multiple responsibilities, priorities and personalities;
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and is able to travel for work purposes;
  • Able to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays as required;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office environment, the internet and web based applications;
  • Experience working with children would be considered an asset.
Qualifications
  • Combination of education and experience in facility management and customer service;
  • Post-secondary education is preferred;
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a Pool Operators Certificate and Arena management courses;
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Reference Check and Child Abuse Registry Check including Vulnerable Sector Verification.
Responsibilities
  • Ensures the provision of safe and effective parks, campgrounds, pool and recreation centre(s) including compliance with applicable statutes and regulations. Performs basic building and ground maintenance including painting, carpentry, plumbing, landscaping and cleaning duties;
  • Arranges and ensures projects are completed by outside contractors;
  • Maintains clear and accurate maintenance logs for all facilities;
  • Maintains inventory of operating supplies and equipment for all facilities;
  • Work with the Recreation Programmer to recruit and hire seasonal staff for all recreation facilities within Wawanesa;
  • Responsible for water chemistry of outdoor pool;
  • Responsible for ice installation and maintenance including monitoring and record keeping of ice plants;
  • Work with the Recreation Programmer to schedule and supervise part time staff at all recreation facilities as required to meet booking requirements;
  • Assist the OWPR Board with annual budgets including short and long term project planning;
  • Assist the Recreation Programmer in developing procedures and programs and the delivery of programs in all facilities;
  • Safely operate motorized equipment: ie: lawnmower, Zamboni, wheel loader;
  • Be available during off hours to respond to emergencies, attend meetings or attend to other situations as they arise;
  • Provide monthly reports to OWPR Board in regards to hours worked, project recommendations and other suggestions on how the facilities could be operated better or more efficiently.
