Job summary

Main Street Project Inc. is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker to help keep MSP buildings functional. The role involves routine maintenance, light plumbing and carpentry, and coordinating with external contractors to support building operations.

You will perform preventative and reactive maintenance, ensure safety protocols are followed, and assist with moving furniture and deliveries. This on-site position requires reliable, detail-oriented teamwork in a fast-paced shelter setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned maintenance tasks each shift, ensuring documentation and communication.
• Lead on maintenance projects including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and furniture/fixtures.
• Monitor and execute preventative maintenance measures.
• Meet with external contractors to provide support and information.
• Notify Coordinator concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building systems.
• Collect and remove garbage from MSP properties indoors and outdoors as required.
• Move sharps containers to a centralized pickup location.
• Adhere to WHMIS, PPE, and safety protocols.
• Snow removal and ice sanding as required.
• Moving of furniture, donations and deliveries.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Facilities Coordinator, the Maintenance Worker is a key part of ensuring that Main Street Project (MSP) buildings, both interior and exterior, are kept functional and in good condition for participants that access MSP’s program and services. This role includes maintenance tasks are both preventative maintenance and reacting to emerging building needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete assigned maintenance tasks each shift, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication
• Take the lead on maintenance projects including, but not limited to, minor plumbing issues (e.g. unclogging drains, etc.), simple carpentry (e.g. dry wall patching, door replacement, etc.), painting and removal/installation/assembly of furniture and fixtures
• Monitor and execute preventative maintenance measures according to established maintenance plans
• Meet with external contractors to provide support and information where needed
• Notify Coordinator concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
• Collect and remove garbage from MSP owned property, both indoors and outdoors as requested/required
• Picking up full sharps containers and bringing them to a centralized pick up location
• Adhere to health and safety protocols (WHMIS, PPE, Occupational Safety and Health)
• Snow removal and ice sanding as required
• Moving of furniture, donations and deliveries
• Other duties as assigned

Additional Requirements

• Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
• Comfortability working with biohazardous waste
• Ability to handle and move objects, using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning and moving materials
• Understanding of and ability to adhere to health and safety protocols (WHMIS, PPE, Occupational Safety and Health)
• Working knowledge of basic computer skills (i.e. Outlook).
• Ability to lift 50lbs or more
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required. Employee is responsible for any service charges incurred.
