Job Summary

The Fabrication Technician is responsible for assembling custom PVC structures by cutting, measuring, and joining PVC pipes and fittings. This role involves working with fiberglass materials and adhesives to reinforce fittings to required pressure ratings, ensuring quality compliance throughout the fabrication process.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Reinforce fabricated fittings using fiberglass and MMA adhesive.
  • Perform spark testing, grinding, and painting of fabricated fittings.
  • Cut plastic and wooden materials using powered tools.
  • Drill and grind plastic materials.
  • Join and assemble plastic parts using adhesives and heat‑forming techniques; apply coatings to plastic parts.
  • Build crates for pipe and fitting products.
  • Use rigging and overhead cranes to move materials.
  • Read shop charts and apply relevant specifications.
  • Operate equipment including pneumatic grinders, spark test guns, scales, cranes, and adhesive guns.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Participate in 5S activities and sustain 5S systems.
  • Assist in training junior employees.
  • Report hazardous conditions and work safely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge & Skills Requirements

Proficiency in metric and imperial measurements. Basic math skills including fractions and geometry. Ability to measure angles using digital or mechanical tools. Knowledge of Health & Safety practices including RPE code of practice. Ability to read and understand production work orders and travelers. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Excellent housekeeping and organizational skills. Safety‑conscious attitude and decision‑making within scope of responsibility. High energy spark testing of pipe joints.

Complexity and Judgment

Regularly encounters problems that have multiple options; but through prior exposure, experience and established procedures/policies can determine the most appropriate course of action. Work involves both routine and non‑routine tasks within defined standards.

Employee interacts with all departments and positions within the plant.

Working Conditions

Incumbent spends 100% of their time in a plant environment requiring varying degrees of physical labour as well as intermittent use of respirators. Lifting, pulling, pushing objects, standing and walking cover the majority of work. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise, levels chemicals and the use of equipment such as sharp blades and presses. Moderate amount of sensory attention is required. Limited control of work pace and unpredictable workflow brings moderate stresses to this position.
