Job Summary

The Expert, Sourcing & Candidate Experience (Indigenous Talent) leads the implementation of the Indigenous employment strategy, Indigenous talent sourcing, partnerships, and candidate experience. This role will be required to work in partnership with the Indigenous Affairs team, Talent Acquisition Managers, HR partners, the Inclusion and Campus teams and other key stakeholders. Through and with the support of the Indigenous Relations Team, this role will also build relationships with Indigenous communities, identify employment hiring initiatives, ensure a high-touch pre-boarding experience and support retention activities. Additionally, they manage sourcing vendors, interview for talent pools, and train recruiters on Indigenous hiring best practices. This role will work to support CN’s IRAP commitments in relation to the People and Employment pillar.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Partnership & Community Engagement:

  • Lead Indigenous partnership strategy to ensure proactive sourcing
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and educational institutions to strengthen talent pipelines
  • Work with the Indigenous Relations team to identify and evaluate sponsorship and investment opportunities that support Indigenous talent development and engagement
  • Create and deliver tailored presentations for Indigenous communities, highlighting career opportunities and fostering awareness of the organization as an employer of choice
  • Coach and train recruiters and hiring managers on Indigenous cultural awareness, best practices in engagement, and inclusive hiring strategies

Recruitment & Candidate Experience:

  • Provide a high-touch, personalized candidate experience ("white glove" approach) to ensure seamless pre-boarding and onboarding for Indigenous hires
  • Manage relationships with sourcing vendors to ensure alignment with Indigenous recruitment goals and optimize sourcing strategies
  • Conduct interviews and assessments for Indigenous talent pools, proactively identifying top candidates for current and future roles
  • Continuously assess and improve sourcing and candidate experience strategies, leveraging feedback and data to enhance recruitment outcomes for Indigenous talent
  • Support and consult on retention and development initiatives

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires some travel (~15%) within North America.

Requirements

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in relevant HR fields such as recruitment, candidate experience and talent acquisition
  • Proven experience in managing recruitment campaigns, optimizing hiring processes, and ensuring a smooth candidate journey across various demographics
  • 2-3 years of specialized experience in Indigenous recruitment
  • Building relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations, ensuring culturally sensitive recruitment processes
  • Developing and executing targeted recruitment strategies that focus on Indigenous talent pools
  • Demonstrating a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, especially in the context of hiring and career development

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
  • Indigenous Studies Certification
  • Certified Human Resources professional (CIHRP/CHRP) *
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Psychology or Sociology *
