Job summary

Airbus in Mirabel, Québec, invites a seasoned Structural & Mechanical Design Specialist to join the Flight Test team designing test benches and experimental installations on flight test aircraft.

You will collaborate with flight test crews and other engineering disciplines, define requirements, lead design reviews, and train new staff, while ensuring delivery on time and meeting quality standards. English proficiency required; occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of aerospace structural/mechanical design experience.
• Experience with experimental aircraft equipment; A220 experience is an asset.
• Proficient in CATIA; strong problem-solving and design skills.
• Ability to work under deadlines in a multidisciplinary team.
• Proactive, communicative with stakeholders and suppliers.

Responsibilities

The A220 commercial aircraft Programme is looking for a Structural & Mechanical Design Specialist to join our Flight Test department based in Mirabel (Québec, Canada), where you will be part of the Test Means team responsible of the test benches design and the experimental installations on our Flight Test Vehicles.

The team organization is established to promote cross-collaboration autonomously, supporting each other and learning collectively.

Your role as a Structural & Mechanical Design Specialist will be to elaborate and design technical solutions for different experimental equipment to be installed on flight test aircrafts.

Your challenges:

• Work closely with flight test crews as well as other engineering disciplines to gather design requirements leading to the definition of experimental equipment on board test aircraft
• Organize and support preliminary design reviews and critical design reviews with stakeholders.
• Involve stakeholders throughout the design process to ensure the final product fully meets their needs.
• Train new employees in your area of expertise.
• Coordinate and support suppliers providing parts and systems, leading up to their final assembly and installation on test aircraft.
• Ensure that engineering deliverables meeting quality requirements are delivered on time in accordance with the schedule.

Your boarding pass:

• You hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• You have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
• You have experience with experimental aircraft equipment (experience on the A220 is an asset).
• You have in-depth expertise in structural and mechanical design.
• Knowledge of CATIA is mandatory.
• You are proactive and have an interest in the aerospace industry and systems integration.
• You are resourceful and capable of finding creative ways to achieve the desired outcome, adapting to rapidly changing situations and emerging obstacles.
• Ability to work under strict deadlines within an integrated and multidisciplinary team.
• You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with subject matter experts regarding a wide range of technical and operational topics.

Due to the sector of activity (aerospace), frequent contacts with Airbus entities worldwide, and interactions with suppliers and clients also located across the globe, proficiency in English is required for this position.
