Daedal Systems in Toronto seeks an Experimental Plasma Physicist to join our lab team. You will design and build lab diagnostics, run tests, and help translate results into design improvements, working hands-on beside senior physicists.
You will travel occasionally to install and service Daedal diagnostics at customer sites, and you will be part of a small, fast-growing startup focused on industrialized plasma diagnostics for fusion energy.
Daedal Systems is a plasma diagnostic company for the fusion energy industry. Today, every fusion company needs the same R&D plasma diagnostics, but each company builds them in-house, despite them not being core IP. Daedal Systems is building a platform for industrialized plasma diagnostics, which will enable us to deploy suites of plasma diagnostics on fusion devices across the industry. Ultimately, we will provide the operating infrastructure for every fusion power plant. We are seeking talented individuals spanning plasma diagnosticians, engineers and operators to join us in this mission to accelerate fusion energy with industrialized plasma diagnostics. We are building the measurement infrastructure layer upon which fusion will be realized.
Daedal Systems is looking for an Experimental Plasma Physicist to join our lab team. Working alongside our senior physicists, you will help design and build the measurement and diagnostic devices at the heart of our industrialized plasma diagnostic platform. This is a hands-on, full-time role based in person in our Toronto lab. You will build lab set-ups, run experiments, record results with care, and source the components our diagnostics depend on. You will also travel occasionally to install and service our products at customer sites.
PhD in plasma physics, or a closely related field preferred (no prior industry experience required); BSc and MSc applicants with relevant hands-on experience are also welcome to apply.
You will join as one of Daedal's early technical hires and work directly with our senior physicists in the lab. You will gain hands-on experience across the full life of a diagnostic, from bench-top prototype to a system installed on a customer's fusion device. As the team grows, you will take on increasing ownership of experiments and diagnostic subsystems, and help shape the measurement infrastructure that will be applied across the fusion industry.
Annual salary range: 80k-120k CAD, depending on education and experience
Compensation range shown is indicative; final salary and total compensation will be tailored to the candidate's experience and fit.
Daedal Systems is committed to an accessible and inclusive recruitment process.
