Job summary

YMCA Kanawana Camp seeks an Expeditions and Rentals Coordinator to lead a team of 15–20 seasonal staff. You will ensure top service delivery for Outdoor Education Centre programs, canoe expeditions, and rentals, while maintaining safety and quality standards.

You will work closely with the management team, coordinate reservations, manage inventories, and guide staff through training and performance evaluations in a collaborative, values-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, outdoor leadership, or related field.
  • 3 years coordinating residential camps or 5 years in day camps.
  • Experience with canoe-camping expeditions; asset in tourism/hospitality.
  • Experience managing seasonal staff in coaching/supervision roles.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management and admin processes for outdoor groups.
  • Demonstrates creativity, integrity, organization and people focus.
  • Proficient in French and English.

As the leader of a team of 15 to 20 seasonal employees, the Expeditions and rentals coordinator (Expedition Program, C-Vert Program, Rentals, Groups and Special Events) is responsible for welcoming clients to the site and ensuring the effective delivery of programs in accordance with the expectations of YMCA Kanawana Camp.

Working closely with the expeditions and rentals management team at YMCA Kanawana Camp, the Supervisor is a member of the camp’s leadership team and collaborates with the full-time staff to maintain and foster a healthy, positive, and impactful culture for all stakeholders of YMCA Kanawana Camp.

  • Plan, manage, and oversee all activities and operations of the YMCA Kanawana Camp Outdoor Education Centre.
  • Ensure the quality of all services under your responsibility.
  • Maintain rigorous operational management, including customer service and equipment management related to outdoor education activities.
  • Develop high-quality programming aligned with YMCA Kanawana’s environmental and human-centered values.
  • In collaboration with your team, review all programs annually and ensure the integration and adherence to the quality standards established by the association.
  • Implement risk management and safety standards for activity areas, expedition programs, and the Outdoor Education Centre, in accordance with industry-leading standards (ACQ, AEQ, YMCA Canada, MAPAQ, CITQ, outdoor recreation federations, etc.).
  • Manage reservations for all Outdoor Education Centre activities in accordance with YMCA customer service standards.
  • Oversee all human resources functions for the programs under your responsibility (groups, rentals, expeditions, special events), including recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and training.
  • Coach and supervise staff under your authority and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Plan and organize employee recognition activities.
  • Maintain inventory records and monitor equipment at the end of each season to support effective budget management, in collaboration with the Outdoor Education Centre Director.
  • Manage the purchase of equipment, supplies, and other materials for YMCA Kanawana Camp within established parameters and oversee inventory management.
  • Be accountable for the overall customer experience at the Outdoor Education Centre and ensure high-quality customer service for all stakeholders, including clients, partners, donors, and others.
  • Collect, consolidate, and distribute client complaints, comments, and suggestions to the appropriate staff members.
  • Identify potential customer groups and cultivate relationships during the off-season.
  • Stay informed about the needs of current clients, prospective clients, and the surrounding community.

The Ideal Candidate Should
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, outdoor leadership, or a related field.
  • Have at least 3 years of coordination experience in a residential camp or adventure tourism setting, or 5 years in a day camp environment.
  • Have experience with canoe-camping expeditions; additional experience in tourism and hospitality is considered an asset.
  • Have experience managing staff in a seasonal coaching and supervision context.
  • Possess strong knowledge of accredited residential camps and adventure tourism industries.
  • Have solid knowledge of risk management and administrative processes required to coordinate diverse groups in an outdoor education setting.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation.

  • Be responsible and organized.
