CBC News is looking for an exceptional leader and accomplished journalist to drive editorial assignment of our Canadian coverage, ensuring audiences are getting the news they need every day. As the executive producer of Canada’s newsgathering team, you and co-executive producer are working with news leaders across the country to drive live and daily domestic news coverage across visual, audio, text, streaming and social platforms. You’re a leader who is motivated by serving audiences with breaking news and the latest developments on major stories. The work is inherently dynamic, with tight deadlines and the constant evolution of stories. You are fearless amid ambiguity, remaining calm and responding quickly as stories unfold and programming teams lean on you for guidance. You help deploy teams to gather, verify and present accurate information to audiences. You have a deep understanding of what drives the audience to watch, listen and read across dayparts, relying on data and research to inform your decisions. You bring extensive knowledge and appreciation of live production across platforms, modular and visual storytelling, and digital presentation. Your curiosity encourages experimentation, and leads to transformative change within a newsroom. CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices is your constant companion, guiding your journalistic decisions across the day. You are constantly seeking out new perspectives and driving inclusive journalism. You bring an intelligent curiosity to the role everyday as you work to identify, develop and coordinate both daily coverage and planned events. You know collaboration is key to the newsroom’s success. You’re a critical link between CBC News and the journalists you support. You ensure your teams are receiving feedback and getting opportunities for development.
This is an eight-month position, from November 2026 until June 2027, that can be based anywhere in Canada where there is a CBC station. As collaboration is a key requirement, you will be expected to be on-site. This is a Monday-Friday role. Hours that could be adjusted based on operational needs.
