Job Description:

Job Summary The Executive Director provides innovative Christian leadership in the administration of a small to mid size Social Mission Ministry Unit. The incumbent provides vision and direction for all business and program ministry matters to strengthen the integrity of mission, efficacy of services, stewardship, and advocacy for our clients as they reintegrate into community. Focus areas include programming, operations and standards, government funding, community outreach, finance, property, and human relations to enhance capacity, accountability, effectiveness, and relevance of St. Catharine’s Booth Centre and The Salvation Army’s mission in the community. The Executive Director partners with expert business support available through Divisional (DHQ) and Territorial headquarters (THQ) to ensure Territorial standards and resources are aligned in service to advance the mission.

St. Catharine's Booth Centre is an Emergency Shelter with 26 shelter beds, a Community & Residential Facility with 15 CRF beds and provides Spiritual and Religious Care (chapel services & individual counselling) located at 184 Church St., St. Catharine's, Ontario.

Key Accountabilities

• Supervise supervisory and non-supervisory staff; collaborate with Human Relations on hiring, discipline, and termination decisions.
• Develop and implement long-term strategic plans aligning with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
• Maintain community engagement through a Community Council and foster positive relationships with funders and stakeholders.
• Manage budgets, authorize financial transactions, and oversee property maintenance in compliance with standards.
• Lead employee relations, including training, evaluations, recognition, discipline, and participate in union negotiations.
• Ensure workplace health and safety compliance per OH&S regulations, including incident management and equipment maintenance.
• Maintain updated policies and procedures ensuring compliance with Salvation Army guidelines and legal requirements.
• Oversee all property transactions, capital needs assessments, and ensure licensing standards are met.
• Report regularly to Boards, Territorial Social Mission, and maintain professional confidentiality and communication.
• Participate actively as a professional team member and represent the organization in a positive, engaging manner.

Education and Experience Qualifications

• Will have an Undergraduate University degree (e.g. BSW, B.A., B.Sc.)
• Minimum of five (5) years of prior related experience working with marginalized clientele in a social services setting, including experience in Human Resources, social services management, budgetary and property responsibilities, financial management, business management, union work environment.
• Senior management experience in social services and complex program operations.
• Strong leadership, supervisory, and team-building skills.
• Skilled in HR and financial management; knowledgeable in relevant legislation.
• Effective in conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Collaborative, with strong negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, email, and internet use.
• Knowledge of nonprofit leadership and current community issues.
• Clear and effective communicator, both written and verbal.
• Client-focused, ethical, and committed to service excellence.
• Strategic, organized, and adaptable in fast-paced environments.
• Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
• Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry is required.
• Ability to undergo and obtain reliability status clearance from Correction Services Canada.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $76,120.88 to $95,151.09 with a maximum of $114,181.31.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
