A prominent labour organization in Metro Vancouver is seeking an Executive Director to oversee all business affairs. The role requires strategic leadership in collective bargaining and managing a small staff. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of leadership experience and knowledge in labour relations, particularly in the film and TV industry. A valid driver's license is required. Competitive salary of $130,000 – $170,000 based on experience, plus benefits.

The Council is a trade union established in 1995 in British Columbia and is comprised of three founding member unions, IATSE Local 891, Teamsters Local Union 155, and ICG 669. The Council represents the shared interests of the member unions as reflected in the Collective Agreements it bargains with Negotiating Producers represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the Canadian Motion Picture Association (CMPA). Since 1996, the BC Council’s Master & Supplemental Collective Agreements have provided terms and conditions of employment covering the majority of unionized employees in the motion picture industry in the Province of British Columbia.
The purposes of the British Columbia Council of Film Unions are to act as the Union in all matters regarding collective agreements with the Negotiating Producers.
Working out of the office located in Burnaby, the Executive Director takes direction from the principal officers of, and responds to, the needs of the three constituent unions representing in excess of 12,000 members/employees; interfacing with up to fifty productions at any given time; guiding, organizing and actively participating in collective bargaining; and offering strategic leadership to the Council. Doing so, the Executive Director oversees a staff of 3-4 employees, coordinates legal services, advisors and consultants in the running of, and reporting on, the day-to-day affairs of the Council. The Executive Director is the chief administrative employee of the Council and might be seen as an “ambassador” of the organization to the employers, the government and the general public.
The Executive Director shall be the Executive Officer of this organization and shall, in general, supervise, conduct and control all of the business and affairs of the Council, its officers and employees, subject to the approval of the Council Executive Board.
The starting salary range is $130,000 – $170,000 based on experience and comes with a generous benefits package.
As our ideal candidate, you are skilled at providing strategic guidance, leadership, community engagement and management in labour relations matters. The successful candidate will also be a skilled communicator and careful listener with experience overseeing multiple projects, setting priorities, managing the interests of stakeholders, with strong negotiation and relationship building skills.
Experience in or knowledge of the film and television industry would be highly desirable. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
