Job summary

Boardwalk Retirement Community in Calgary is seeking an experienced cook/chef to create cycle menus and prepare nutritionally balanced meals for residents. You will maintain high sanitation standards and supervise kitchen staff during service, ensuring timely purchasing and inventory control in a retirement home setting.

Qualifications include 5 years of professional cooking, a Canadian culinary certificate or equivalent, a High School Diploma and Food Handling Permit.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in professional cooking.
  • Professional cooking certification (Canadian Culinary Institute) or equivalent experience.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Mandatory Food Handling Permit training.
  • Knowledge of retirement homes or institutional settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create cycle menus and prepare meals that are tasty and nutritionally balanced to residents’ satisfaction.
  • Be attentive to residents’ needs by ensuring a regular presence in the dining room.
  • Supervise staff during handling and preparing foods and ensure compliance with sanitation and public health standards.
  • Responsible for the facilities and equipment cleanliness.
  • Responsible for purchasing products and liaising with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Implement and oversee food storage and rotation to minimize spoilage.
  • Manage inventories.
  • Participate in various committees.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Experience And Educational Requirements
  • 5 years of experience
  • Professional cooking certification administered by a Canadian Culinary Institute or relevant experience
  • High School Diploma

  • Knowledge of retirement homes and institutional environment is a plus
