Job summary

Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is seeking EXCEL Group Leaders for Before and After School Programs. Casual/sub positions, with shifts most days and a 7:30am start for before-school and around 2pm for after-school, across multiple sites in Halifax.

Compensation starts at $20.28 per hour plus vacation pay and includes potential for additional hours. Start date is 1 September 2026 and end date 28 June 2027, with a deadline of 1 October 2026 to apply.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of one year's experience in the child care field.
• Knowledge of recreational programming.
• Must possess strong communication skills.
• Have ability to work as part of a team.
• High School Completion Certificate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead EXCEL Before/After School programs across multiple sites.
• Work five days per week with shifts varying by site.
• Be available 30 minutes prior to the end of the regular school day.
• Support staff through training and supervision as needed.

Our EXCEL program has many exciting opportunities for Before and or After School Child Care positions throughout the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. • Rate of pay is $20.28 per hour plus vacation pay.
• EXCEL Group Leader positions are 5 days per week and require staff to be available 30 minutes prior to the end of the regular school day. While the start time of the Before/After school shift varies from site to site, most Before school shifts begin at 7:30am. Most After school shifts begin around 2pm.
• Potential for additional hours
• For 2026-2027, children of EXCEL Before and After Program employees can attend the EXCEL program at a discounted rate as an employee benefit.
• Various paid training opportunities available including High Five, First Aid/CPR, Fundamental Movement Skills, etc.

Requirements

Asset

• Possession of a valid First Aid/CPR Certification is considered an asset
