Job summary

Fort McKay Group in Alberta is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator - Excavator Operator for open pit mine or civil construction sites north of Fort McMurray. This safety-sensitive role requires pre-employment testing and strict adherence to site procedures.

You will perform excavator operations, conduct checks, collaborate with the team, and participate in toolbox talks. The position offers company pension, comprehensive benefits, and competitive pay with 14 days on/7 off shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license required.
• 3 years driving abstract required.
• 2–4 years experience operating heavy equipment in mining or civil construction.
• CSTS and OSSA/BSO/CSO certification required.
• Excavator operation over/under 180 tons required.
• Must be able to read/write/speak English.

Job description

Summary:

Under the direction of the Team Lead, the Heavy Equipment Operator - Excavator Operator is responsible for experienced operation of an Excavator in an open pit mine worksite, or on a Civil Construction worksite. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Key Focuses:

• Operate an excavator to excavate, move, and load earth, gravel, rock, or other materials during mining related activities in a safe and efficient manner.
• Conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks on equipment, keep equipment clean, and perform basic maintenance or lubrication as required.
• Accept instructions as directed, and adjust work/strategy according to changing conditions, policies and procedures as needed.
• Participate in toolbox meetings, provide suggestions for improvement and safety.
• Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
• Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license is required
• 3 year Drivers Abstract is required
• At least 2-4 years of experience operating Heavy Equipment in Mining and/or Civil Construction is required.
• CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO is required
• Excavator operation (over/under 180 tons) is required.
• Ability to speak, write and read English is required

This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB, on the Syncrude MLX Site. Work schedule is 14 days on, 7 days off; days and nights. 11.5 hour shift.
